Rants: Time is...

Posted on Saturday, September 30 @ 22:26:17 EDT by admin

Rants

I know that it's been said so many times that it's become a cliche, but real life is a lot like Dungeons and Dragons.

"Why is that?" I hear you ask. "Is it because of the rampaging undead? The marauding ogres? The way it undermines the youth of America?"

While all that all might be true. I was actually thinking about time.

You see, in Dungeons and Dragons, the round (six seconds of time) is the most precious commodity. It doesn't matter if you have a hundred swords, or if you can cast a thousand spells per day, because you probably won't have time to. Either you will slay the hoards of undead, or they will consume your brains before you get the chance.

I feel like life is like that a lot of times. I have a million things I want to do: write a play, learn to play the guitar, update Matthew J. Hanson.com. But at the end of the day there are only so many hours in the day.

This got me thinking, what if it some day it becomes possible literally transfer time from one person to another (using some kind of crazy super science). Until then we'll have to settle for the old stand by of money, which allows us to transfer time by "paying somebody else to do work for us." (And at the current rate, I won't be able to do that too often.)

In the near future I'll see if I can't budget more time to keep the site updated. (After all I do have some news to report. I could tell you now. But I won't).
